This 8 Days Rwanda Safari takes you for unrivaled wildlife viewing in three national parks; Akagera National Park, Nyungwe Forest National Park and the Volcanoes National Park
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Our safari driver will meet you at Kigali International airport on arrival. Drive to Akagera national park located along Rwanda-Tanzania border in Eastern Rwanda. Go for an evening game drive in the park that may reward you with sights of Burchell’s Zebra, lions, elephants, topi, giraffes, impalas. Over 425 species of birds are found in the park including the shoe billed stock, African jacana, sacred ibis goliath heron. Dinner and overnight at Akagera Game Lodge / Ruzizi Tented Camp.
Day 2: boat trip on Lake Ihema
Rise early for a game drive to catch the early risers. The drive starts from the south and ends in the northern part of the park. In the late afternoon, have a boat trip on Lake Ihema. Some animals hat can be seen during the boat ride include large pods of hippo, huge Nile crocodiles and numerous water birds. Dinner and overnight at Akagera Game Lodge.
Day 3: Nyanza Tour & Nyungwe National Park
After breakfast, drive to Kigali and then continue to Nyanza. Visit the royal palace of the Mwami (traditional king of Rwanda). An onsite story teller will narrate the facts on the pre-colonial kingdom’s history. From Nyanza, drive to Butare and visit the national cultural museum. Have lunch after which you will drive to Gikongoro to tour the Murambi genocide memorial. Proceed to Nyungwe national park arriving in in the evening. Dinner and overnight at ORTPN Gisakura guest house /Nyungwe Forest Lodge.
Day 4: Primates walk in Nyungwe national park
Have an early breakfast after which you will proceed to the park headquarters. A park official will brief you shortly after which you will go on a primates’ walk in Nyungwe forest. This trek can take long between 1-6 hours depending on the movement of the primates. It is advisable to carry plenty of water and a picnic lunch on this walk. This walk will reward youwith sights of large troops of colobus monkey and chimpanzees. Retire for dinner and overnight at ORTPN Gisakura guest house /Nyungwe Forest Lodge.
Day 5: to Lake Kivu beach
You will leave Nyungwe Forest for Gisenyi. Gisenyi is a pretty town located on the shores of Lake Kivu, Rwanda’s main water body. Relax and enjoy beach activities like sport fishing, boating and swimming. Check in to Kivu Hotel or Palm Beach Hotel for lunch, dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Travel to Musanze
You will be driven to Musanze (Ruhengeri) the gateway to Parc Nationale des Volcans. The drive takes you past the Virunga mountains. Musanze is one of the most interesting towns lying in the shadows of the Virunga Mountains. Upon reaching the hotel, you can relax all evening or take a local community tour. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Nest Camp or Muhabura Hotel.
Day 7: mountain gorilla trekking in PNV
Have an early breakfast early. Transfer to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters by 7am for briefing. After briefing you will enter the forest to track the habituated mountain gorillas. The time spent in the forest will depend on the movements of the gorillas. Tracking can take half an hour but in some instances can even take as long as 5 hours. However, if you are lucky you will locate the gorillas in a short while, spend an hour with them, and then return to the lodge for a late lunch. It is advisable to move with enough water necessary for long tracking hours. Rain gear and a pair of strong walking boots are also a must have. Visit the mountain gorilla sanctuary and on your return, you will receive a certificate: souvenir for every successful tracker. Have lunch. You can relax all evening at the lodge. Dinner and Overnight at the Gorilla Nest Camp or Muhabura Hotel in Ruhengeri.
Day 8: to Akagera national park
After breakfast, leave Volcanoes National park for Kigali. Have a Kigali City Tour. Drop off at the airport or hotel
